June is almost upon us! And there’s a lot of excitement ahead to warm your heart and body and make you forget the winter chills.

As usual, this newsletter brings you all the details about what’s on, what’s new, and what’s very special this month, as well as news about what’s been happening since our last newsletter. The most important event on our events calendar – the annual NH The Lord Charles Charity Ball – happened again on Saturday, 29 May. Once again, it was a glittering and fun-filled evening, and we are confident that this year’s event was as successful as previous ones in raising funds for the ECHO and Imibala charities. Watch out for news about the Charity Ball in next month’s newsletter.

As you might have noticed, this month’s newsletter has a brand new look! We’re very happy with its crisp, open feel, and we hope you like it too.

The Executive Chef of NH The Lord Charles, Bernard Steyn, supplied this month’s recipe – a mouth-watering, wholesome winter stew and classic Cape dish.

Waterblommetjie Bredie

Recipe The ‘waterblommetjie’ (aponogeton distachyos) – also known as the Cape asparagus or pond lily – is an aquatic plant with a tuberous root and floating leaves borne on long stalks. The forked, sweetly scented, white flower heads are edible and used in various dishes. It is high in mineral content and contains several vitamins.

NH @ INDABA!

The NH Hoteles team attended the National Tourism INDABA at the Albert Luthuli Convention Centre (Durban ICC) from 8 to 11 May.

INDABA is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar and one of the top three ‘must visit’ events of its kind on the global calendar. Showcasing the widest variety of Southern Africa's best tourism products, the show attracts international visitors and media from across the world every year, and has been named Africa’s best travel and tourism show for two years in a row by the Association of World Travel Awards.

This year’s INDABA featured over 1,500 exhibitors, with more than 2,500 visitors attending the four-day event. The NH stand attracted a host of new clients and the team also enjoyed the opportunity to see existing clients – and we look forward to continue building lasting and fruitful relationships with all of them.

SA vs. Finland, brought to you by NH

NH Hoteles was once again privileged to be one of the main sponsors of the Davis Cup play-offs, which took place from 7 to 9 May at the Groenkloof Tennis Stadium in Pretoria.

Davis Cup The prestigious event saw South Africa and Finland playing it out for a place in the World Group play-offs in September, with South Africa carrying the day.

This year’s tournament was more successful than previous ones, with spectators filling the smaller stadium to enjoy some very good tennis. Once again, all present agreed that it was a great event – and with South Africa winning the tie on Saturday already, the NH hosted guests were smiling broadly!
