WELCOME FROM THE MD
We were all shocked by the utter devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan earlier this month, and watched with utmost concern the efforts to contain radiation leakage from the nuclear power station that was damaged in the quake. We would like to express our deep sympathy for the people of Japan in the wake of the disaster, as they come to grips with the great loss of so many lives and the challenge of rebuilding their shattered towns and cities.
Happening within weeks of this natural and man-made calamity, Earth Hour 2011 was perhaps the most compelling yet, promoting as it does environmental awareness and encouraging governments and ordinary people alike to take concrete action in moving toward a sustainable future for the planet. NH Hoteles once again supported this international initiative with a blackout of the exterior lighting on all of our 306 hotels world-wide. What did you do?

NH shines at Meetings Africa 2011
The NH Sales Team attended Meetings Africa 2011, which took place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 21 to 24 February.
Known as Africa’s business tourism ‘”lekgotla”, the event showcases products from across the region’s meeting, incentives and events industries at a “one-stop shop” for conference organisers, meeting planners, corporate travel agents, DMS’s and International and National Hosted Buyers alike.
This year, NH once again enjoyed a very successful event – the team (Sales & Marketing Manager,
Angela Jacobson, and Sales Executives Vernon Hearne and Lana Jover) not only having many scheduled appointments with hosted buyers, but also walking away with the “Best Small Stand” award for their exhibit. |

Earth Hour 2011 – Taking time to protect our planet
On Saturday, 26 March 2011, NH Hoteles participated in the WWF’s Earth Hour initiative for the third year running by turning off the exterior illumination of each of its 306 properties worldwide from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. local time – and saving an estimated 1,386,086 watts of electricity during that hour.

2010 – A very good year for NH
Sound management and operational principles, resulting in marked increases in productivity and energy savings, combined with a general recovery in the sector helped NH Hoteles to post very good results for 2010 and more than double its EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) compared to the previous year.
