Game anyone?

NH Hoteles is once again privileged to be one of the main sponsors of the Davis Cup play-offs, which will see South Africa squaring up against The Netherlands in the second round tie of the European/African zone that will take place from 8 to 10 July 2011 in Potchefstroom.

The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis (the women’s equivalent is the Fed Cup). It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested between teams of players from competing countries in a knock-out format. The present champion is Serbia, who beat France to claim last year’s title.

Time to say goodbye ...

NH The Lord Charles says goodbye to Dorothy April after 15 years of sterling service.

Dorothy has been with us since December 1996, and everyone who has worked with her during the ensuing years has had only praise for her ever friendly and sunny personality, her reliability and loyalty, and her willingness to go the extra mile for guests and colleagues alike.

Asked for her impressions of her years at NH The Lord Charles, Dorothy remarked that she learned a lot here, and what stands out for her are the many friendships that she made over the years and the pleasure of working for a company with such a diverse culture. And one thing she’ll never forget is the way staff and management supported her when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2001 – one of the many reasons why NH The Lord Charles will always stay close to her heart.

For our part, we are sad to say goodbye to this very special lady, but wish her all the best for the future. We’ll miss you, Dorothy!

Vichyssoise (Potato and chive soup)

This month’s recipe is a classic French soup ... or is it? Although it’s named for a town in France and was created by a French-born chef, it was first introduced to the world at the Ritz-Carlton in New York in 1917, in remembrance of a favourite childhood dish. But whether you call it “Vichyssoise” or “Potato and chive soup”, it’s a deliciously creamy and wholesome soup – and although it was traditionally served cold, it makes for a warming winter treat. The recipe comes from Sous Chef Marlin Le Roux of
NH The Lord Charles.

NH Hoteles finds Chinese Partner The HNA Group of China has acquired twenty percent of the shares in the Spanish-owned NH Hoteles group, thereby becoming the second largest shareholder of NH and winning the right to appoint two members to NH’s Board of Directors. With this transaction, NH seeks to enter the vast Chinese market, where it thus far has no hotels. The CEO of NH, Mariano Pérez Claver, acknowledged this, saying that NH highly esteems the great commercial value of cooperation between the two parties.
